The consistent use of gloves in dental practice has pushed the subject of allergies more and more into the limelight. Allergic reactions can occur at any time, even after years of trouble-free glove use. Inducers of (cross-) allergies may be latex proteins present in the gloves, chemical additives or, for example, corn starch powder.

Patients as well, however, should be queried in their medical history about any possible latex allergy, since latex sensitization is also becoming more and more frequent in the general public.
